About this calculator
How This Discount Calculator Works
Enter an original price and a discount percentage, and the calculator shows how much you save and the final price after the discount.
Worked Example
An $80 item at 25% off saves $20, bringing the final price to $60.
The Formula
Savings = Price × (Discount ÷ 100), then Final price = Price − Savings.
Stacking Multiple Discounts
Discounts don't simply add together — a 20% discount followed by an additional 10% off isn't 30% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so two stacked discounts of 20% and 10% actually work out to 28% off the original price. To calculate a stacked discount, run the first discount through this calculator, then use that result as the starting price for the second.
Worked example
An $80 item with a 25% discount saves $20, bringing the final price to $60.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount by hand?
Multiply the price by the discount rate (as a decimal), then subtract that from the original price: 80 × 0.25 = $20 off, so $80 − $20 = $60.
What if I have two discounts stacked?
Apply them one after another, not added together — a 20% then 10% discount isn't 30% off, it's 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72, i.e. 28% off.
How do I find the original price from a sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount rate). A $60 item at 25% off started at 60 / 0.75 = $80.
Does this include tax?
No — this only applies the discount. Add sales tax separately on the discounted price if your total needs to include it.
