How This Pressure Calculator Works

Enter a force and the area it's applied over, and the calculator returns pressure in pascals, atmospheres, and psi.

The Formula

P = F ÷ A — pressure equals force divided by the area it's spread across, measured in pascals when force is in newtons and area is in square meters. The same force concentrated on a smaller area produces much higher pressure — this is why a sharp knife cuts more easily than a dull one, and why snowshoes keep you from sinking by spreading your weight over a larger area.

Worked example

500 newtons spread over 2 square meters produces 250 pascals of pressure — about 0.0025 atmospheres, or 0.036 psi.
